Why couldn't ANet...
Ok, we all know the gear trick no longer works due to Ritualist's holding ashes and blahblah.. but why couldn't ANet just make it that the game could tell the difference between ritualist's and other objects ?

It was a trick in the first place, it wasn't supposed to be like that. The change was an actual fix, not just for ritualists but for the game in general.

Yes, this is a good thing. It encourages more diverse groups and doesn't limit the poor warrior to just standing holding the gear/book/torch/whatever. Hopefully people are more accepting of other professions onto teams that used to be the same 5 professions each time.
